YOUTH HOCKEY: Marshall Squirt B hockey drops weekend games
MARSHALL – The MAHA Squirt B hockey team had a rough weekend, going 0-4 at the Squirt Squadron Classic Tournament in Marshall.
On Friday night the Tigers faced Hutchinson, falling behind 6-0 in the first period. Hutchinson added two in the second and one in the third before Riley Pfannschmidt broke up the shutout with a goal at 7:30 in the third to make it a 9-1 loss for Marshall.
The Tigers faced off against Sauk Rapids on Saturday morning, and found themselves down 3-0 after the first period. Sauk Rapids added another goal in the second and two more in the third before Dylan Steilen went unassisted to the net at 8:30 in the third to make it 6-1. Sauk Rapids would add another goal before the game was finished, handing the Tigers a 7-1 loss.
Later that day Marshall finished up pool play against Mound Westonka, who quickly went on the offensive, taking a 15-0 lead in the first. They would score three in the second and third periods to go on to a 21-0 win over the Tigers.
Marshall and Redwood Falls met in the seventh-place game on Sunday morning. The two teams battled early, but Redwood Falls was able to gain a 2-0 advantage in the first period. After an early second period goal, the Tigers scored when Pfannschmidt scored on a Steilen rebound to make it a 3-1 game. Marshall wasn’t able to finish the comeback, allowing four more goals, finishing with a 7-1 loss.
Taedan Smith and Colby Allen combined on the weekend for 89 saves over the four games.
The Tigers will be in action again this Sunday when they travel to Mankato.
